Girls girls girls

Okay, I wouldn't really call myself a feminist.  I mean, I like to shave (well not like it's an activity I look forward to, but you know what I mean) and I do like men even if not always the ones in my life right at this second and even though I get angry sometimes it's usually about something specific not just generally being angry all the time.

But sometimes, I really despair for young women today.  It's not even like I'm all that old, but they seem to have changed, you know?  Or is it just me?  When I was in school, it was all about being all you can be (though not necessarily joining the army) and having a career that didn't depend on men and whatnot, and this new generation just seem so... silly.  Okay, I went into entertainment a little bit myself (and might be again) but that was still having a job on my own merits that could be tough sometimes, not floating around "modelling" and going to parties and being defined by their love life.  It's just depressing.

Is this what feminism was about?  For young women to have the choice to seem like they're not really all there and call it empowerment?

Oh dear. You are on a downer today. Hey young men can also appear equally clueless and vapid. Don't despair. Remember most teenagers are 'self self', (I know I was), but will eventually emerge into adulthood, some even become merchant bankers, eek! (In case you don't know, the term bankers is also rhyming slang - far more appropriate.)

More importantly did you enrol on a Swedish language course?

Also hope things are working out well with Erik, but don't forget to look out for the other guys too. It's always good to have options!

Take care

Good points, I guess it's not just young women but I was just bombarded yesterday with these little twinkie girls what are all about being hot and cute and nothing else, and was just like, remember when it was cool to be strong and independent... anyone?

No, that's not what feminism is about. That's the celebrity culture that's going on right now. A lot of men, women, and teenagers are obsessed with it.

We are bombarded from all directions with perfect, edited women and men on posters, tv, and internet. How could it not influence young people to think, oh this is how it's supposed to be.. this is how I can fit in and get attention.

You can still be feminine or masculine and be a strong woman, however. Just like a man can be feminine or masculine to be a strong man. It's just about what you want. But the celebrity worship going on right now is insane and is damaging to esteem.

Feminism is wanting the right to independence and equal rights (equal pay, job opportunities, etc). Getting respect. Who cares if you like pretty shoes too, because hey, if you want, you could also be indifferent to shoes.

Just be yourself and don't worry about how everyone else is. They have a right to be however they want to be. So long as they're not hurting anyone, haha.
