Take Your Shoes off or Die

Swedes sure do like their rules.  Which, I guess is their right like no doubt 57,000 commenters will tell me whenever I breathe a word about where I live, but really, they like a LOT of rules.  They all know them.  I think that there is some special compound where Swedish babies are taken and taught all the Rules of Life, and then they all have to go back once every three weeks to be tested to make sure they didn't forget anything.

Because, sometimes I screw up in America.  Sometimes I get in the wrong line or make a stupid joke that was funny in my head and everyone is like "woah, not appropriate" or whatever.  Because I am human and not perfect.

But, everyone in Sweden is perfect all the time.  They all know exactly what to do every single second and don't even ask questions and never interupt each other or show up at a party wearing the wrong thing.... ever.  And if anybody does screw up, they look at them like they just scraped them off their shoe.

Which is ironic, because they don't every wear their shoes inside.  I mean, in your own home is one thing I guess, but a stranger when I don't know how clean they are?  Or I'm wearing socks that aren't exactly for public consumption, and it's like, give me a break!!!

Umm I think you're being funny? I hope? Because if not, it's kind of obnoxious. It's like anything else, "my house, my rules" - you have to adapt to how Swedish people live, not the other way around. Sorry, but that's just they way it is. I don't understand why people move to a country if all they want to do is moan about it? Appreciate the opportunity to LEARN something about a new culture. Maybe then you will finally make some friends.

Please! Where did I say that Swedes should live by my rules?? I don't mind anonymous haters coming in with their two sense, actually it makes me laugh which is why I allow anonymous comments even though my REAL followers usually advise me to block them, but at least get some reading comprehension!!!

I totally get what you're trying to say but maybe it's an European thing. Because I also know to take off my shoes when entering another home and I'm not Swedish.
And if you're having such a hard time adapting to those rules you might ask one of your Swedish friends if they can name a few of the most common rules for you so you can prepare. Keeps you from surprises.

Aww, this is funny! I can understand you, I´ve lived in four different countries in the past 5 years, and everytime i had to get used to new set of rules...sometimes it´s pretty tricky! Don´t give up, and don´t mind the stupid anonymous haters!

Eeehm, so wear clean socks? And the thing is - if noone wears shoes, you don't have to worry about how clean it is...because it won't get dirtyy.

I call them "The Secret Swedish Rules" and I am always breaking them and sometimes getting scolded. And the Secret Swedish Holiday always popping up!
